On April 28, in the welding workshop of Volkswagen (Anhui) Co., Ltd., young engineer Xing Hao was inspecting the production status. Xing Hao has obtained 13 national patents and led an innovation team to acquire 55 patents. He has been honored as a reserve candidate for academic and technical leaders in Anhui Province and named Anhui Craftsman of the Year, among other titles.
On April 28, Xu Nan, associate chief physician of the Infectious Diseases Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, led graduate students in non-invasive liver fibrosis detection for patients. In clinical work, Xu Nan sees over 5,000 patients annually. Her project on "Series of Studies and Clinical Applications of Non-invasive Diagnosis of Liver Fibrosis" won the third prize for scientific progress in Anhui Province. Recently, Xu Nan was awarded the 2025 Anhui Province New Era Youth Pioneer honor.
On April 27, at the Anhui Innovation Pavilion, guide Ma Yan and colleagues discussed the content for explaining technological innovation exhibits. Transforming complex and obscure scientific knowledge into easy-to-understand language for the public is a daily essential task for these guides. Versions for universities and research institutes, popular science study versions, English versions... Team members have mastered these different and complex scientific explanations, continuously telling Anhui's innovation stories well.
On April 28, graduate student Wang Jingming and team members from the Tea Tree Aroma Substance Metabolism and Bioengineering Innovation Team at the National Key Laboratory of Tea Tree Germplasm Innovation and Resource Utilization, Anhui Agricultural University, were collecting tea tree volatiles. The team focuses on research into the "secondary metabolic physiological functions of tea trees." Recently, the team was awarded the 2025 "Anhui Youth May Fourth Medal Collective" title.
On April 29, inside an agricultural technology enterprise in Yuantuan Town, Feidong County, "new farmer" Yang Yang and his young technical team were checking the growth of edible mushrooms under blue light in a smart production workshop. Yang Yang is a native of Yuantuan Town and chose to return home to start a business after earning a PhD in vegetable science from Anhui Agricultural University.

On April 28, in the laboratory of Anhui Guosheng Quantum Technology Co., Ltd. located in Hefei High-tech Zone, young post-90s technical R&D personnel Yang Wanyang (right) and Zhao Jihong (left) were debugging a quantum diamond probe scanner.
Developing new quality productivity is an inherent requirement and important focus for promoting high-quality development. The youth on the Jianghuai land, relying on their solid technical skills, keen insight, and fearless spirit of exploration, tackle challenges and showcase their talents in various fields of Anhui's new quality productivity development, while also highlighting their brightest youthful colors. On the eve of the May Fourth Youth Day, our reporter visited the front lines of scientific research, capturing vivid images of young strivers and vividly presenting the youthful power in the wave of new quality productivity development.

In the field of quantum technology, solid-state spin defects are considered one of the most promising platforms for building applications such as quantum computing and quantum sensing due to their long coherence times and stable fluorescence emission at room temperature. However, efficiently and flexibly manipulating and addressing solid-state spin qubits has always been a core challenge for the large-scale application of quantum technology. Traditional methods rely on local electromagnetic fields generated by micro-nano metal wires or fixed nanostructures, whose distribution is not adjustable, resulting in poor spatial selectivity and limited control efficiency.
Recently, the research team led by Academician Guo Guangcan, Sun Fangwen's group, in collaboration with Zou Chongwen's group from the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory/School of Nuclear Science and Technology, achieved optical control of the local insulator-metal phase transition in vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films. This enabled the creation of micro-nano current pathways with arbitrarily reconfigurable shapes and demonstrated their application in solid-state spin quantum control. Zhang Shaochun, CTO of Guosheng Quantum, was deeply involved in this work. The results were published on August 29 under the title "Reconfigurable photothermal doping filament for selective spin manipulation and addressing" in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
Popular Science China | Quantum Current Transformer: The Quantum "Insight" in Diamonds
In the previous two articles, we learned about the basic principles of quantum precision measurement and became familiar with a key material—the NV center, which can sense magnetic fields and temperature, and can also read quantum state information with extremely high precision.
In the previous article, we introduced the cutting-edge technology of "quantum precision measurement": it can achieve ultra-high precision measurements of physical quantities such as time, magnetic fields, and electric currents by manipulating the quantum states of microscopic particles. Simply put: prepare quantum materials, observe the state changes they undergo under the influence of external physical quantities, and then read out these changes to calculate the magnitude of the external physical quantities.
